IAQUINTO ANTI-GANG BILL PASSES HOUSE

Richmond- HB 901, introduced by Delegate Sal Iaquinto passed unanimously in the House today that brings tougher penalties to individuals convicted of a felony. The bill would allow judges to order, as a condition of probation or parole, that criminals convicted of a felony are prohibited from further association with members of street gangs.

"It's too easy for former gang members to return to criminal activity after their release when they're surrounded by that negative influence," Iaquinto said. "My goal with this bill is to work against the reorganization of these dangerous gangs."

This bill has broad endorsement among Commonwealth leaders. Iaquinto carried the bill on behalf of Attorney General Bob McDonnell, and Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling included it in the group of bills he endorsed as a part of his legislative agenda. It will now go to the Senate for a vote before becoming law.

Iaquinto represents the 84th House District in Virginia Beach, formerly held by Attorney General Bob McDonnell. This session is his first in the General Assembly.
